Gogo is the Zulu word for grandmother. It's a term that
has been adopted by a group of women in my neighbourhood - we call ourselves
the South Fraser Gogos. We are not all grandmothers but we are all of
that certain age and deeply concerned about the burden being carried by
the grandmothers of Africa. HIV/AIDS has decimated their adult children,
leaving behind some 13 million orphans.
Where there is a grandmother there is a bottomless well
of love. But they cannot do it alone. While the love is bottomless, their
actual resources are apallingly scant. They desperately need our help.
This section of the life-well-spent site is dedicated to
giving a little more profile to the cause and encouraging you to order
some of the great products we sell to raise funds for our African sisters.
Net proceeds from all sales are donated to the Grandmother to Grandmother
Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
